Oil and Gas References

These are the references I used for the Oil and Gas piece.

Oil and Gas Piece

These are pics of a project I'm working on to put in my demo reel for school. I am showcasing the process of how a object is going from a blueprint to how it will finally look. I also give a breakdown on each piece and what it is. I used Cinema 4Dand rendered it in Sketch and Toon and Cel Renderer. The video will be posted soon

Internship

This is another vid I did for internship. They were still catching me up to speed on AE thanks to Video Copilot.

I learned alot from that website and from my time at my internship. I wish I could show all I did for them but I'm not allowed to. With that said I plan to show what I can do in After Effects now since all this was done  a while back. I just wanted to show what I been up to in the past few months.

Internship

This past quarter I had my internship  dealing with motion graphics. I got the chance to really mess around in After Effects for the first time. I learned a lot in the package  and also got the chance to learn Element 3D as well which is  really cool.

This vid  was one of the first I did while I took my internship on me just getting used to the AE. They had to help get up to speed  on how they use AE for the projects.  Not much but I thought it was ok.

Sky Boat

This is the latest model I worked on  this quarter and by far the most challenging  one. I had to go back and forth on it multiple times, lot of sleepless nights, but totally worth it. There were things with this model I did over look and never did consider to do or just didn't know at all.

Nontheless, it was a fun challenge and I learned a lot from this project for me to become a better modeler. As with the last two models I posted, I plan to texture  this one as well next quarter in the software, Mari. ,

The concept art reference I used comes from an artist named Ian Mcque (link below). His work mostly has  this industrial steampunkish look, which is very interesting. His art is very inspirational and I would love to  model another piece  from his artwork. Be sure to check out Mr. Mcque's artwork at his blog.

As always, If you see anything at all that I can approve on with the model please leave a comment. Thanks!

Abitazione

This is  a final render and wireframe  look of another model  I did last quarter.  It's actually the first one I did. My original idea for this piece  thanks to a professor was  to model, texture, composite and animate it.

I  still plan to do it and I have a interesting  idea on how to go about with the piece. Stay tuned for more on that. The concept art reference I used is from a artist named Oscar Cafaro. To see the reference, just click on the link below. If there is anything you see I can prove upon,  please leave a comment and let me know. Thanks!

Crane House

What you see is the final render and wireframe presentation of  a model I did in  my previous quarter in a portfolio class. My goal next quarter is to texture it in the software called Mari, and have it in my demo reel.

At the bottom is the link to the concept art  I used for the model. If  you have any suggestions for me to improve it, please leave a comment. Thanks!

Welcome!

Hello! My name is Blaine Dotson. I'm currently a student at the Art Institute of Houston, majoring in Media Arts and Animation.

My goal with this blog is to show off my progress as an artist and to improve to become the best that I know I  can be. I also hope to use this blog as a learning tool as I hope to gain knowledge from people in the industry, current colleagues, and new colleagues. This should be a great journey. With that being said,  "Welcome!"
